Nikas Safronov meets with the Pope

Nikas Safronov, Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Arts at Ulyanovsk State University and People's Artist of Russia, has met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. The meeting took place in the library of the Apostolic Palace, where Safronov presented the pontiff with a painting and received his blessing to create a personal collection for the Vatican.

The artwork, depicting the San José de Flores Basilica in Buenos Aires, holds special significance for Pope Francis, as it was the site of his first religious service. Additionally, the painting has traveled to space, orbiting the Earth three thousand times.

Moved by the painting, Pope Francis expressed his appreciation, emphasizing the unifying power of art across cultures, religions, and civilizations. "Art is an important force that connects people, and this is why exhibitions are so essential," he stated.

Safronov described the meeting as emotionally uplifting, highlighting the Pope’s deep response to the painting.
