In accordance with  Webometrics rating results, USU ranked 95th  (out of  1071)    among Russian universities, 1204 (out of 5774) among European universities, 932 (out of 10336) among BRICS universities, 3945 (out of 11994) among world universities.

Webometrics rating is a  Cybermetrics Lab product, which is a part of a National Research Council of Spain – analog of the Russian Academy of sciences. The ranking results have been published since 2004 twice a year (at the end of January and the end of July). Methods and approaches for assessing educational institutions are in accordance with the Berlin principles for ranking higher education institutions. These principles were developed, agreed upon and approved as fundamental for comparative studies of national higher education systems by the International Expert Group on Ranking.
