On the last weekend of April, the 80th anniversary athletics relay race for the prizes of the Ulyanovsk Pravda newspaper was held in the center of Ulyanovsk. The participants of the race on the way to the podium overcame 23 stages along the route: Sobornaya Square – Esplanade – Novy Venets Boulevard – Plastov Boulevard – Goncharova Street – Lenin Street – September 12 Street – Minaev Street – Goncharova Street – Dmitry Ulyanov Street – Spasskaya Street – Lenin Square – Esplanade – Sobornaya Square.

Before the relay, the teams marched through the square, they were greeted from the stage by Governor Alexei Russian and guests of honor – Olympic champions Mikhail Mamiashvili and Irina Privalova. Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin conveyed his welcoming words in a video message.

The team of Ulyanovsk State University won the bronze medal in the race among universities.
